By Dawn Hammersley
Pramac Racing’s Jorge Martin takes another Sprint Victory and extends his championship lead as Pecco Bagnaia crashes out.
Pecco Bagnaia took pole position for the PETRONAS Grand Prix of Malaysia, Jorge Martin lined-up in second place, with Alex Marquez rounding out the front row of the grid. There were dark clouds looming but no rain for the MotoGP Sprint Race.
A the lights went out it was a dash for the holeshot between championship rivals Martin and Bagnaia, Martin just had the edge over Pecco to get the lead. Marc Marquez had a good start and was in third place just behind the leading duo.
The clouds were getting darker and there were spots of rain in the air but nothing too dramatic for the MotoGP riders.
Pecco had a moment coming out of turn nine but managed to settle into his rhythm once again. Martin was taking wide lines in various parts of the circuit but was holding off Pecco and Marc.
Enea Bastianini was in fourth place, the Italian rider was chasing Marquez down as the pair are in a championship battle for third place in the championship.
Disaster struck on lap three for Pecco at turn nine! He crashed out, the Ducati rider did nothing wrong! Obviously Pecco walked off to the pits distraught, Martin would now have a 29 point lead over Pecco in the championship standings.
With just four laps to go Marc was quicker than Martin but just wasn’t close enough to make a move for the Sprint victory.
Behind Alex Marquez and Fabio Quartararo were battling for fourth place, Jack Miller and Pedro Acosta were dicing for eighth place.
Martin crossed the line for the victory, Marc was second, Bastianini was third, Alex Marquez won the battle for fourth place, a solid fifth place finish for Fabio.
