WSBK: Nicolo Bulega Does the Treble at his Home Round at Misano
By Dawn Hammersley
Bulega is unbeatable once again, setting a blistering pace in all-three races at Misano in front of Ducati royalty
Championship leader Nicolo Bulega was on pole position for the final racing installment of round seven of the WSBK Championship. Iker Lecuona once again started from second place, followed by Barni Racing’s Yari Montella in third place.
Lecuona shot off the line to lead the WSBK riders into turn one, disaster for Alvaro Bautista as he crashed out at turn eight in a collision with Stefano Manzi.
Bulega made the move to lead the race and started to put air between himself and his team-mate. The Bimota’s made a strong start running in third and fourth place, with Axel Bassani leading the duo.
Taz Mackenzie was running in eighth place, Tommy Bridewell was in 17th place. Sam Lowes was running in 13th place.
No surprise as Bulega was the fastest man on track with 16 laps to go in the race. Montella got between the Bimota’s for fourth place. Miguel Oliveira had a technical issue and pulled into the pits, a very solid performance from the BMW rider on his return from injury.
Montella was putting the hammer down to snatch third place from Bassani. Alex was just losing touch with Montella with ten laps to go.
Bulega had over a five second lead at the front, Lecuona had over a six second lead from third placed Bassani.
Disaster struck for Bassani, he crashed out at turn eight with just four laps to go! Montella was now in third place, a carbon copy finish of the two previous races.
Bulega crossed the finish line to do the treble once again in front of his home crowd, Lecuona was second, with Monetella taking his third podium finish of the weekend. Alex Lowes was fourth, with Taz finishing in a very strong fifth place.

Next up for WorldSBK Championship Donington Park 10-12 July.
