Moto2: Joe Roberts Tops Free Practice Three At Cold Le Mans
By Jack Hammersley
Joe Roberts continues to show his pace this season as he was able to finish in first place, improving his pace from yesterday by 2.1 seconds.
Marco Bezzecchi managed to finish in second place proving to be a contender for the victory this weekend. Marco helped out his teammate the battered and bruised Luca Marini by giving the championship leader a tow and helped his teammate finish in the top 14, meaning both SKY Racing VR46 bikes are in Q2.
It’s a return of form for Marc VDS’ Augusto Fernandez as he finished inside the top three. Augusto has struggled to be on the winning pace this season. But at the circuit where he got a podium last year, he looks to be in good shape to get back on the podium.
The man second in the championship Enea Bastianini struggled in the third Free Practice session finishing down in 27th position, 1.8 seconds off the pace. This is Enea’s best chance to claw back points from the injured Marini, but so far he’s not doing what he needs to do as he has to go through Q1.
Britain’s Jake Dixon continues his great pace this weekend as he gets through to Q2 and looks set on once again improving his best qualifying position of his Moto 2 career. The Brit has looked competitive in all conditions, proving to be one of the favourites for the podium.
Dixon’s teammate Xavi Vierge had two crashes in the session, but he was able to just finish inside the top 14 getting into Q2. The Spaniard has shown great race pace so far this season, but qualifying has been his detriment his season. If he could be on the front two rows, he could prove to a victory contender.
