Moto2: Sam Lowes Breaks All Time Lap Record Whilst Luca Marini Will Go Through Q1
By Jack Hammersley
Sam Lowes has been on fire this weekend, putting in a great race run in Free Practice Three then going on to break the lap record, setting a 1:51.576. Does pole number ten await Sam Lowes?
This weekend does not get any better for SKY VR46’S Luca Marini as the Italian was able to improve his lap time, but it was not enough finishing in 17th overall and therefore will have to go through Q1. This is the first time this year Luca will have to go through Q1. Can he solve his issues to get into Q2 to fight for those vital grid positions?
Luca Marini’s team-mate Marco Bezzecchi was able to get into Q2, finishing in ninth position. Bezzecchi has had a couple of setbacks this weekend, but this hasn’t stopped him from getting into Q2. Can Marco get onto the front row as he did so last weekend?
Enea Bastianini was looking set to join Marini in Q1, but the Italtrans rider was able to put a lap time in good enough to secure his place in Q2, finishing in 11th. Enea will need to take another step if he’s to stop Sam Lowes’ remarkable run of form.
Edgar Pons put in a stunning lap which would have broken the lap record had Sam Lowes not broken it a few minutes before. Edgar has shown good pace over the two Aragon rounds, and this weekend looks to be in great shape. Can the Spaniard take his career-best qualifying which is currently 13th position?
Marcos Ramirez continues to improve, finishing the session in third place. The Spaniard has found great pace at the MotorLand Aragon circuit, finishing sixth place last weekend. Can Ramirez take his first front-row start later today in Q2?
Hector Garzo on the Flexbox HP 40 Pons Kalex has also been on fire this weekend, finishing inside the top five. Garzo’s best Moto2 qualifying is an eighth place at the Styrian Grand Prix. Can Garzo get on the front two rows on the grid for the first time in his Moto 2 career?
Sam Lowes looks set for a tenth career pole position and potentially breaking the lap record again. Can anyone stop the Marc VDS rider in his tracks, or will Sam be too strong? Qualifying takes place at 15:50 (GMT+2)
