Honda’s Glenn Irwin Takes His First Pole Position Of The Season.
The days schedule at Cadwell Park was changed due to inclement weather closing in at the Lincolnshire circuit, the Superbike qualifying was brought forward to 11.35, Race One is now at 2.30pm.
As the Q1 session got under-way under cloudy but dry conditions, it was FHO Racing BMW’s Xavi Fores who led the pack, with McAMS Yamaha’s Tarran Mackenzie in second.
At the chequered flag the top six riders going through to Q2 were Tarran Mackenzie, Gino Rea, Storm Stacey, Takumi Takahashi, Xavi Fores and Buildbase Suzuki’s rookie Tim Neave.
Honda’s Glenn Irwin was setting the pace in Q2, followed by Tommy Bridewell and Christian Iddon. Championship leader Jason O’Halloran was in fifth place. The session was red Flagged with five minutes remaining, due to Kawasaki’s Ryan Vickers crashing at Chris Curve.
The session was resumed as all riders went out for five minutes apart from Glenn Irwin as he felt safe with his lap time to take pole position which he did. Jason O’Halloran took second place with Peter Hickman taking third place for the last front-row spot. Tommy Bridewell qualified in fourth with local man Lee Jackson taking fifth.
The lone SYNETIC BMW of Andrew Irwin took sixth place with rookie Rory Skinner in seventh place, Ryan Vickers despite his crash was able to finish the session in eighth place with VisionTrack Ducati’s Christian Iddon in ninth place so the championship contender will have a lot of work to do from the third row of the grid.
Tarran Mackenzie was tenth place after his time in Q1, Dan Linfoot was eleventh and Buildbase Suzuki’s Gino Rea in twelfth. Champion Josh Brookes has unfortunately not been able to capitalise on his early Friday pace and will start on the fifth row in 13th, Bradley Ray was 14th with Storm Stacey in 15th. The final three spots were Xavi Fores in 16th, Tim Neave in 17th and Takumi Takahashi taking the last spot on the sixth row in 18th.
Race Two is at 2.30pm.
