Gino Rea Claims His First Pole Position Of The 2021 Season In Sketchy Conditions.
The Bennetts British Superbike schedule for today has been brought forward due to weather conditions forecast. for the Leicestershire circuit.
The Q1 session got under-way under very cold sketchy conditions, with a track temperature of just nine degrees. The top six through to Q2 were Gino Rea, Kyle Ryde, Joe francie, Takumi Takahashi, Storm stacey and Ryan Vickers.
For the Q2 Qualifying session the conditions were very sketchy, rain had started to fall. Most of the riders hung back in the pits before going out on track. Once the session got going a few of the riders came victim to the weather conditions, Josh Brookes went down but was able to get going again, team-mate Christian Iddon went down at McLeans, McAMS Yamaha’s Tarran Mackenzie was late coming out onto the track, the young Scot unfortunately crashed after only completing a four laps.
Ryan Vickers was in first place after the first set of laps, then the likes of Rory Skinner, Tommy Bridewell and Danny Buchan were fighting for the top spot. Jason O’Halloran was hovering in and out of the top ten for the whole of the Q2 session. Showdown contender Peter Hickman was also slightly down the order just outside the top ten.
The Pole Position spot kept changing throughout the session but it was Builbase Suzuki’s Gino Rea who claimed his first Pole Position of the 2021 season, SYNETIQ BMW’s Danny Buchan was second, Honda’s Glenn Irwin was third. After their crashes Mackenzie and Christian Iddon finished down the order in 16th and 17th respectively.
