Jack Kennedy hopes Thruxton’s high-speed circuit plays into the hands of Mar-Train Racing this weekend.
The Lisburn-based team are coming off the back of their best ever result in the BSB class, after Kennedy finished fourth in the wet conditions at Brands Hatch last time out.
The former British Supersport champion is “raring to go” after a three-week break between rounds and is returning to a circuit he has enjoyed plenty of success at in the past on the 600 machine. Now he is hoping his R1 Yamaha can shine at the Hampshire circuit.
Jack Kennedy
“We want to keep the momentum going after Brands. I really like Thruxton.
“I really like high-speed circuits and there is none more high-speed than Thruxton. I can’t wait to get out there, and Yamaha has a good record there.
“We would love to try and better that fourth place. In the dry it will be a big ask but I never rule anything out.
“We could set off with a really good feeling and pace, like we did at Silverstone on the opening weekend, and things might fall into place for us. It isn’t out of our reach, but we have to see.”
Mar-Train Yamaha Racing have enjoyed a positive season in the British Superbike class, securing points in every race bar one at Donington Park where Kennedy crashed out.It has been a steep learning curve for the team, and their 35-year-old rider.
Jack Kennedy added:
“I feel I have improved, and you need to. On Friday you’re straight under pressure with trying to post fast times,” Kennedy added.
“In Supersport you just had free practice on the Friday. I am also on the bigger bike and there are more rac
“So, I have had to improve physically and mentally, and we have had to improve as an organisation all round. “Everything needs to be bang on for the weekend to go well. People don’t see the preparation that goes into it.
“The season so far has been a positive rookie season. We have scored points in every race apart from one, and we have shown great potential in a couple of the races by competing at the front end.
“Silverstone and Brands Hatch were evidence of that. And we have finished all of the feature races on the Sunday and gained a lot of information moving forward.
“It will stand the team in good stead going forward.”
Mar-Train Yamaha Racing team boss Tim Martin has some fond memories of Thruxton, and he hopes Kennedy can create a few more this weekend.
Tim Martin – Team Owner:
“Thruxton has been a very happy hunting ground for the team over the years. We have had many wins there.
“Alastair Seeley, Stuart Easton and Jack have all enjoyed it there with us. We knew our way around it on the 600, but this time it is on the big bike.
“Jack won there last year on the 600 with ease. It is one of my favourite tracks because of the speed, and it makes for some fantastic racing.
“The weather looks good as well, so we can’t wait. It is a big test for the team and we want to see the results improve slightly if we can.
“Fingers crossed we get a good, clean weekend and we can put on a show for the fans. We have a few guests coming along this weekend as well so it would be nice to give them something to cheer about.”
