
Moto3: David Alonso Wins the Moto3 Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya.

GASGAS rider David Alonso wins a dramatic Moto3 race, after a last corner battle with three riders.
For the Gran Premi Monster energy de Catalunya, Angeluss MTA Team’s Ivan Ortola was on pole position, Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Deniz Öncü lined-up in second place with CFMOTO Racing’s Joel Kelso rounding out the front row. The weather conditions for the Moto3 race were humid with a slight breeze in the air.
Deniz Öncü lead the field of Moto3 riders into turn one, all 29 riders made a clean start. Jaume Masia was on the move in third place, Daniel Holgado was down in 13th place; not where the current championship leader wanted to be.
Ayumu Sasaki had a moment on the exit of turn five, the IntactGP rider didn’t let it hold him back. Masia took the lead as Holgado set the fastest lap time so far. The field were still very much bunched up with 16 laps remaining to the race.
David Alonso took the lead on the start finish straight, Joel Kelso having a strong ride in fourth. Deniz Öncü was holding onto the second place position. Holgado made his way up the order and was in fifth place. Britain’s Scott Ogden was down in 20th place.
With 12 las to go Holgado took control of the race and was leading from Deniz Öncü. The leading group consisted of 21 riders! Joel Kelso had a few tough laps and was pushed back to 20th place.
Deniz Öncü hit the front from Masia and Holgado at the half-way point of the race, the Turkish rider looked to be upping the pace at the front.
In the latter stages of the race Track Limit warnings were being handed out to various riders as the pressure was building in the final laps.
14 riders were in the battle for the win with just two laps to go, Holgado was leading from David Alonso and Deniz Öncü.
Holgado crashed out at turn 10! Disaster for the Spanish rider, it was carnage at the last corner, David Munoz crashed out after contact with Deniz Öncü.
David Alonso crossed the line to take the Moto3 victory, Masia had to settle for second, Deniz Öncü finished in third place; the KTM rider’s move on Munoz was under investigation. Rueda was fourth with Sasaki finishing in fifth place.
Rueda was promoted to third place as Deniz Öncü was handed a six second penalty for his move on Munoz on the final lap.
