Marc Marquez wins the Hungarian Grand Prix as the championship leaders were involved in a turn one crash
It was a hot Sunday in Hungary at Balaton Park, Marc Marquez fresh from his Tissot Sprint could take his first Grand Prix win since San Marino 2025 and podium since the Japanese Grand Prix last year. Pedro Acosta started in second and chose the soft rear tyre in hopes of taking his first Grand Prix victory and fellow Murcian Fermin Aldeguer was third. Fabio Di Giannantonio headed the second row in fourth with Francesco Bagnaia in fifth and championship leader Marco Bezzecchi rounded out the second row in sixth, his teammate Jorge Martin started in eighth.
The lights went out and Marquez held off Acosta into turn one, Martin lost control on the brakes and took out Bezzecchi, Raul Fernandez, Di Giannantonio and Aldeguer. Bagnaia was third ahead of Luca Marini and Jack Miller.
On lap two Acosta made a move on Marquez at turn five to take the lead, Marini went wide at turn one allowing Miller to take fourth place.
Ai Ogura was the sole Aprilia on track and was in ninth place after passing Fabio Quartararo at turn three. Enea Bastianini went through on Diogo Moreira at turn five.
Acosta had pulled a 1.7 second gap over Marquez after five laps, Marquez was 1.3 ahead of Bagnaia. Bastianini ran wide at turn one and hit the side of Joan Mir as he rejoined the racing line, The Beast was given a Long Lap Penalty.
On lap six Marquez closed the gap to 0.9 seconds to Acosta and set the fastest lap of the race and began to apply pressure to the Red Bull KTM rider.
Bastianini took his long lap on lap eight and dropped to 11th, promoting Iker Lecuona who was replacing Alex Marquez into ninth and Toprak Razgatlioglu into tenth.
Miller was leading a six way train that contained Marini, Moreira, Mir, Ogura and Lecuona. The Aussie was five seconds behind Bagnaia and doing a great job to hold off the riders behind.
On lap 11 Miller was forced to concede fourth place as Marini made the pass on the Pramac Racing Yamaha rider at turn nine. Razgatlioglu and Bastianini had joined the train for fourth place.
Moreira tried to overtake Miller into turn nine but the reigning Moto 2 world champion went a bit deep and Miller held onto fifth.
Marquez was on the back of Acosta and he made the move at turn nine, but Acosta turned underneath at turn 11 to take first place back. Marquez tried again at turn 15 but Acosta didn’t relinquish the place and the pair made contact and Acosta held onto the lead.
Marquez made the block pass at turn nine and Acosta was unable to respond and Marquez pulled out 0.7 seconds in half a lap.
Mir lost the front at turn 11 out of eighth place. Ogura was putting Miller under pressure for fifth place and forced the Australian to run wide at turn one and the TrackHouse Aprilia rider was into the top five.
Brad Binder was making a late charge passing Bastianini and Razgatlioglu and was on the back of Lecuona.
Moreira out-braked Miller into turn five and was into the top six. Fabio Quartararo who was down in 13th was given a long lap penalty for track limits.
Di Giannantonio was the only rider from the turn one collision to remount and after Quartararo took his long lap, the Italian was in the points in 15th.
Ogura was one of the fastest riders on track as he usually is at the end of races, but the Japanese rider was stuck behind Marini. The former Moto 2 world champion tried to send it at turn 11 but ran wide and would have three laps to try again.
Ogura then made the move stick at turn one on Marini just about not running wide, he had 5.2 seconds to Bagnaia in third.
Marquez crossed the line to take his 100th Grand Prix victory, Acosta was second and Bagnaia took his third third place in a row. Ogura was fourth with Marini in fifth, Moreira was sixth, Lecuona overtook Miller on the last lap for seventh, Bastianini was ninth and Binder was tenth.
