Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP’s Collin Veijer lead the Moto3 race to take a controlled victory
CFMOTO Aspar Team’s David Alonso was on pole position for the Moto3 Grand Prix at Jerez, BOE Motorsport’s David Munoz qualified in second place, with Intact GP’s Collin Veijer rounding out the front row of the grid in third place.
Lights out at Jerez as David Munoz lead the field into turn one, the first corner was a bit hectic! A few corners later David Alonso took control and was leading until he made a mistake and crashed out turn 13.
David Munoz was now leading from Collin Veijer, Ivan Ortola was in third place. Alonso rejoined the race at the back of the field 13 seconds behind the leader Veijer.
After just three laps the leading group consisted of just six riders; Veijer to Australian Joel Kelso. Current championship leader Daniel Holgado was in ninth place. Rookie Joel Esteban was the fastest rider on track in fourth place.
Alonso was calving through the field with 11 laps remaining to the race, a point scoring position was definitely on the cards for the young Columbian. Holgado was in eighth place and just didn’t look to have the pace to catch the leading group.
At the half way stage of the race the leading group was a group of four from Veijer to Ryusei Yamanaka. Munoz was in second place on the rear wheel of Collin. With just two laps to go the leading trio dropped fourth placed rider Yamanaka, it was a three-way battle for the victory between Veijer, Munoz and Ortola.
Munoz was piling the pressure on to take the lead, but Veijer held off the BOE Motorsports rider to take the victory, Munoz crossed the line in second place, Ortola was third, Yamanaka was fourth with Kelso finishing in fifth place. David Alonso crossed the line in 11th place, salvaging five important championship points.

Daniel Holgado leads the Moto3 championship standings on 74 points from David Alonso who is currently on 68 points.
