By Dawn Hammersley
Glenn Irwin puts himself back into championship contention after winning race two.
For race two at the Cheshire circuit of Oulton Park, yesterday’s race one winner Kyle Ryde was on pole position with Lee Jackson lining up in second place, FHO Racing’s Josh Brookes rounded out the front row of the grid in third place. The weather conditions at the Cheshire circuit weren’t ideal due to heavy rain. Danny Buchan was declared unfit to ride due to his big off yesterday during race one.
The race was shortened to ten laps due to the delay with the rain. Kyle Ryde lead the BSB field into Old Hall Bend, thankfully all riders made it through the first few corners in the sketchy conditions.
Glenn Irwin was leading the race after one lap with Leon Haslam for company. Oxford Products Ducati’s Christian Iddon was on the move and passed Haslam for second place, Christian needed some good points in the bag after his off yesterday.
Kyle was slipping down the order in seventh place, Youth was not enjoying the wet conditions at the Cheshire circuit.
Iddon took the lead but disaster struck as he crashed coming out of Shell Oils! Glenn had to take caution not to hit Iddon which meant he ran off track. Charlie Nesbitt was the next to crash at Old Hall Bend on lap four.
Haslam was now leading the race from Tommy Bridewell and Lee Jackson. Lewis Rollo was the fastest man on track in fourth place, the young Scott is a master in these conditions. Glenn was in sixth place after running off circuit earlier in the race.
With three laps to go there was a four way scrap for second place from Glenn to Rollo. Rory Skinner crashed out at Hislops another victim of the conditions.
Danny Kent got in the mix and was in third place, just behind Glenn who made his way into second place.
Final lap time Glenn was closing in on Haslam, Kent was in the fight for the win too! Glenn passed Haslam to lead the race, Haslam ran on at Hislops putting him back to third place.
Glenn Irwin crossed the line to take the victory, Kent was second with Haslam finishing in third place, Bridewell was fourth with Rollo finishing in fifth place.
The championship standings change hands back over to Tommy Bridewell, he has a nine point advantage over Kyle Ryde.
