By Dawn Hammersley
Marc Marquez takes his fourth Sprint Race victory of the season under the flood lights of Qatar.
Qualifying at the Lusail International Circuit saw Marc Marquez take his fourth consecutive pole position of the 2025 season. Gresini’s Alex Marquez qualified in second place with Monster Energy Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo qualifying in third place. Pecco Bagnaia crashed during the Q2 session and lined-up in P11.
Honda’s Joan Mir was declared unfit to compete in the Tissot Sprint Race due to illness, he will be reviewed again tomorrow for the main MotoGP race.
Lights out for the Tissot Sprint Race as Marc Marquez lead the MotoGP field of 21 riders into turn one. Pecco held his 11th place position, Maverick Vinales was in fifth place, a strong start for the KTM rider.
Frankie Morbidelli was putting pressure on Fabio for third place as Alex and Marc were dicing for the lead, Marc wasn’t giving the lead up!
Frankie got the better of Fabio for the third place, further down the order Fabio Di Giannantonio and Pecco were swapping positions just inside the top ten. Jorge Martin passed Pecco for 11th place, the Ducati man just didn’t look comfortable.
MotoGP rookie Ai Ogura was in tenth place, another strong ride from the Trackhouse rider. With seven laps to go Di Giannantonio was making his presence known running in seventh place.
Out at the front Marc was putting space between himself and his brother Alex, the gap was just under a second. Frankie was just losing touch with the leading duo.
Gresini Racing’s Fermin Aldeguer was putting Vinales under pressure for fifth place as Ogura was moving up the order in ninth place. Pecco was in tenth place looking a bit more settled than he did earlier in the race.
On the final lap there was a three-way battle for third place between Frankie, Fabio Quartararo and Fermin. Pecco was in eighth place, just a few points in the bag for the former champion.
Marc crossed the line to take his fourth Sprint victory of the season, Alex was second with Frankie holding onto third place, Fermin passed Fabio for fourth place.
