Moto3: Taiyo Furusato Wins the Malaysian Grand Prix
By Dawn Hammersley
The Moto3 race was cut short to a ten lap sprint race, with Furusato taking a comfortable first Moto3 victory.
Leopard Racing’s David Almansa was on pole position, Taiyo Furusato lined up in second place, with Guido Pini rounding out the front row of the grid.
Jose Antonio Rueda was lining up in third place on the grid but unfortunately Jose and Noah Dettwiler had a crash on the sighting lap, the race was Red Flagged. Both riders were airlifted to hospital, we are wishing both Jose and Noah a speedy recovery.
The race was started over ten laps, Furusato got the holeshot, Max Quiles was in second place, with pole man Almansa in third place.
Furusato looked comfortable setting the pace at the front, Almansa and Quiles were battling it out for second place. Britain’s Scott Ogden was just outside the top ten running in 12th place, fellow British rider Eddie O’Shea was in 16th place.
After three laps Almansa took charge of proceedings, Furusato retook the lead a few corners later. The leading group consisted of 11 riders, from Furusato to Ryusei Yamanaka.
Cormac Buchanan crashed out losing the front end at turn four. Adrian Fernandez was looking sharp in fifth place, challenging his team-mate Almansa for fourth place.
Quiles had a massive moment but saved it! Unfortunately home rider Hakim Danish crashed out with five laps to go, the Red Bull Rookies rider was having a strong ride before the crash.
Furusato was stretching out his lead from Fernandez, Pini was in third place. Ogden was in ninth place, just out of touch of the leading group. Almansa had a moment, just like Quiles David saved the crash!
Angel Piqueras was in second place, trying his best to hold off Fernandez! Disaster for the Intact GP rider Pini, he crashed out at turn 15, the young Italian rider remounted and rejoined the race.
A hectic ten lap Moto3 race as Furusato crossed the finish line to take the victory, Piqueras finished in second place, Fernandez was third, Almansa was fourth, Yamanaka was fifth.

The latest news on Jose and Noah is, Jose is awake and conscious with a right hand fracture, no further news as yet on Noah.
