
MotoGP: Raul Fernandez Takes his Career First Tissot Sprint Victory in a Dominant Performance at Mugello

Raul Fernandez wins in stunning fashion using the medium rear tyre to win the Tissot Sprint
It was a hot day in the Tuscan hills at Mugello, Marco Bezzecchi was on pole position for his home round heading an all-Aprilia front-row with Raul Fernandez in second and Jorge Martin in third. A returning Marc Marquez was the top Ducati in fourth with Fermin Aldeguer in fifth and Francesco Bagnaia in sixth while Fabio Di Giannantonio who had been the fastest all weekend started in seventh.
The lights went out and Marquez took the lead into turn one but Fernandez took the lead at turn three with Martin taking second. Diogo Moreira block past Marque into turn four as Di Giannantonio overtook Bezzecchi for sixth and he then took Marquez at turn 12 for fifth, Bagnaia was down in 11th.
Bezzecchi forced Marquez wide at the final corner to take sixth onto the third lap. Fernandez and Martin were leading and the only ones who were on Medium tyres.
Di Giannantonio moved into the podium places slipping up the inside of Moreira at Arrabbiata One and had a 1.5 second gap to Martin.
Bezzecchi pulled the same move on Moreira as he did on Marquez at the final corner to move into fourth. Pedro Acosta and Enea Bastianini were fighting for the top KTM spot with Bastianini ahead in eighth.
Bastianini lost the front at turn ten and was out of the race, Franky Morbidelli crashed out at turn ten also.
Marquez tried to pass Moreira into turn one but the reigning champion ran wide but Moreira lost the front so Marquez was able to hold position.
Aldeguer then picked off Moreira at the final corner with Acosta, Bagnaia and Ai Ogura closing in behind.
Fernandez made a mistake at turn ten and Martin was within 0.5 seconds of the leader with three laps to go.
Acosta block passed Moreiria into turn ten and then Bagnaia overtook him at the final corner and then Ogura at turn one.
On the last lap Bagnaia overtook Acosta at turn two and used the change of direction at turn three to defend the Spaniard, Ogura then past Acosta at Casanova.
Fernandez crossed the line to win his first-ever Tissot Sprint, Martin was second and Di Giannantonio was third. Bezzecchi was fourth ahead of Marquez, Aldeguer, Bagnaia, Ogura and Acosta.
