By Dawn Hammersley
Bulega had to fight for his second victory of the weekend, as team-mate Iker Lecuona continues to pile on the pressure
Nicolo Bulega once again dominated race one yesterday, would we see a carbon copy for the Superpole Race? Bulega was on pole position, team-mate Iker Lecuona lined up in second place with Alberto Surra rounding out the front row of the grid. Jake Dixon was declared unfit due to his wrist injury.
Lights out as Bulega lead the WSBK field into turn one, Bulega ran slightly wide giving the lead to his team-mate Lecuona. Surra also passed Bulega for second place, was chosing the harder rear tyre the wrong choice for the championship leader?
Surra was on the back wheel of Lecuona with nine laps to go. Andrea Locatelli and Tarran Mackenzie crashed out of the race. Taz lost the front taking Locatelli down with him.
Sam Lowes passed Bulega for third place, the Brit then went on to pass Surra for second place. Lowes made a harsh move on Lecuona to try to lead the race, Lecuona wasn’t giving up the first place position.
Lowes took the lead with six laps to go, Bulega was in third place and seemed to look more comfortable on track.
Bulega passed Sam and Iker on the line to lead the race, Lecuona took back the lead, Lowes was pushing to take second place from Bulega but just ran wide. Lorenzo Baldasarri joined the party in fourth place.
Bulega retook the lead with three laps to go, Lecuona made the tight pass to lead and made it stick for a few corners, until Bulega took back the honors. Baldasarri crashed out of fourth place giving Lowes a bit of breathing space in third place.
Bulega held on to first place to take the victory, Lecuona was second, with Sam finishing in third place, Surra was fourth, Alex Lowes was fifth.
