Marc Marquez wins in Hungary after a dominant performance ahead of Pedro Acosta and Marco Bezzecchi
For the second time in MotoGP history Balaton Park hosted the Hungarian Grand Prix. Marc Marquez started on pole position for the Tissot Sprint, his second of the season. Pedro Acosta had the fastest race pace all weekend and started from second with Gresini Racing’s Fermin Aldeguer in third. Fabio Di Giannantonio lined-up in fourth with Francesco Bagnaia alongside after going through Qualifying One and Marco Bezzecchi was the top Aprilia and completed an all-Italian rider and manufacturer second row. Jorge Martin started from the middle of the third row in eighth with all Aprilia riders struggling with the soft rear tyre.
The lights went out and Marquez took the holeshot into turn one ahead of Acosta and Bezzecchi, Raul Fernandez and Diogo Moreiera had made great starts in fifth and sixth. Martin overtook Bagnaia for seventh at turn 15.
Martin tried to pass Moreira at turn nine but he ran wide at had to cut the chicane and let the Brazilian back through.
Aldeguer lost the front at turn nine but managed to save it and it allowed Fernandez to inherit fourth place and Moreira was on the back of the Ducati.
Martin tried again at turn nine on Moreira and this time made it stick after getting a good run out of turn eight.
Aldeguer was riding on the back off Fernandez all race long and on the penultimate lap the Gresini rider out-braked himself into turn five but he had a big enough gap over Martin to hold onto fifth.
Di Giannantonio was also on the back of Bagnaia all race long and tried to pass Pecco into turn five but ran wide and Bagnaia retook the position.
Marquez took his third Tissot Sprint victory of the season by a comfortable margin ahead of Acosta and Bezzecchi. Fernandez was fourth with Aldeguer in fifth, Martin in sixth, Moreira with his best sprint result in seventh, Enea Bastianini in eighth and Bagnaia held off Di Giannantonio for the final points paying position to continue to be the only rider to score points in every sprint this season.
