Quiles once again showed his race craft and extends his already vast championship lead
Liqui Moly Dynavolt’s David Almansa was on pole position for the Grand Prix of Hungry. CF Moto Aspar’s and current championship leader Max Quiles qualified in second place, with Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Brian Uriate lining up in second place.
Lights out at the Hungarian circuit, Almansa got the holeshot into turn one. Turn two disaster for Guido Pini as he crashed out, Hakim Danish and Ruche Moodley also crashed out on the first lap.
Alvaro Carpe made up nine places on the opening lap, running in eighth place. Poleman Almansa was leading from Quiles and Valentin Perrone.
By laps three the leading duo of Almansa and Quiles were breaking away from the rest of the field. Perrone and Rico Salmela were in the next group, pushing to catch the leaders.
Casey O’Gorman was having a solid ride in tenth place, Scott Ogden was in 15th place, with fellow Brit Eddie O’Shea in 20th place.
After seven laps Salmela and Perrone were on the heels of the leading riders. Quiles decided to take control of the race and made a pass for the lead at turn nine. The third group of riders Carpe, David Munoz and Uriarte were 1.3s behind the second group.
At the halfway point of the race Quiles was getting into a rhythm and was edging away from Almansa. Nicola Carraro crashed out at turn one. Munoz was catching Perrone and bringing Carpe with him, the second group of riders now consisted of four riders.
With five laps to go, the battle for third place was heating up, Carpe was just about holding off Munoz until the Liqui Moly rider made a move for the third place position.
Disaster on the last lap as the race was Red Flagged due to Munoz, Uriarte and Perrone all coming together at sector three.
Last lap time as Quiles crossed the line with over a three second lead from Almansa, Carpe was third, Uriarte was fourth, with Salmela finishing in fifth place.

Quiles now leads the Moto3 championship standings on 170 points.
