Five action packed races delivered by the R&G Moto4 British Cup
The R&G Moto4 British Cup is underway for 2026 with two rounds and five races already taking place, the change in name of the class is not the only change as the championship have switch from Dunlop tyres to Pirelli’s.
Round One
At Oulton Park the first race of the season was won by RK Racing / Burrows Engineering’s Jack Burrows for his debut win in the class. The Northern Irishman was strong in testing and continued to improve session by session being one of the number of riders to go under the lap record. Burrows was leading the race as the red flag came out on lap ten.
A rider who finished alongside Burrows on the podium was one of the title favourites in Fibre Tech Honda by MLav Racing’s Ryan Frost, Frost has finished in P3 for the last two seasons scoring multiple victories and podiums. In race one at Oulton Park Frost was third but responded on Bank Holiday Monday with back-to-back victories holding off Burrows in second.
Kovara Projects RS Racing and City Lifting / RS Racing had a strong opening to 2026 with two podiums, the first was Jack Dunabie for Kovara Project in race one, but a mistake in race two and a crash in race three denied the Scot a chance at more podiums. Rookie Marco Holt was very impressive on his first weekend scoring a fourth and a third although also crashing out in race three.
Race three was a very attritional race with ten riders crashing out all on the right-hand side of the tyre, most the crashes happened at the exit of Old Hall. This attritional race allowed George Bowes of A Edwards Racing to take his first podium in the class.
Round Two
At Donington Park race one was under wet conditions, with the rain coming only ten minutes before the race it meant that most of the teams were unable to make the necessary changes to the setup. Despite a late safety car reducing his lead, Dunabie showed his skill in the wet conditions to take his first win of the season with Burrows continuing his podium streak and retook the championship lead from Frost who was third. Clayton Edmunds crashed out of all the races at Oulton but brought his City Lifting / RS Racing
Honda in fourth with rookie Harrison Day in fifth for LRA Moto supported by HV Solutions and fellow rookie Stanford Racing’s Henry McCartney.
The final race at Donington was in much better conditions, rain was looming all day but managed to hold off for the R&G Moto4 British Cup. It was a four way battle for the win between Frost, Dunabie, Burrows and Mortimer Racing’s Mason Foster, who had been struggling at the start of the season and was one of the fallers at Oulton Park, he missed the first few laps of Free Practice One after doing an exam.
Foster made an incredible start from eighth on the grid to go around the outside at Redgate to be in P4. The four of them were stuck together with Frost and Dunabie doing most of the position swapping with Burrows and Foster choosing to sit back until the end. Foster made his move on Burrows into the Melbourne Hairpin on Lap 12, Burrows responded at the same corner on the next lap and the pair made contact, Foster lost 0.8 to Frost and Dunabie while Burrows gave himself a Long Lap Penalty and was out of the running for the podium.
Frost pipped Dunabie to the line, Foster took his first podium of the season with Burrows in fourth. Holt made a great comeback starting from 16th to finish in fifth.
Round Three takes place at Snetterton in Norfolk on July 3-5, the likes of Dunabie and home rider Foster will be aiming to claw back some vital championship points from Frost and Burrows.
