BSB: Josh Brookes Wins his Second BSB Championship Title
By Dawn Hammersley
The VisionTrack Ducati rider Josh Brookes takes his 54th career win to claim the 2020 BSB Championship crown.
The V4 Ducati of Josh Brookes had a lightning start the grid for the second race of the day. The McAMS Yamaha duo of Jason O’Halloran and Tarran Mackenzie were in hot pursuit of the championship leader forming a three-way train at the front with only 0.5 seconds of a gap between the riders.
Team-mate of Brookes Christian Iddon was in fourth place, but he was off the pace of the front runners being 2.3 seconds behind. Mackenzie looked to be held up by his team-mate O’Halloran, so with six laps remaining in the race, Tarran took second position to take the fight to Josh for the race win. Whilst closing in on the championship leader Tarran had a few heart-stopping moments which were caused by the back end of his Yamaha R1 twitching!
The 37-year-old Australian Josh Brookes rode the perfect race to win his second BSB Title, clocking up an impressive 54 wins in his BSB career so far, this race win being his 19th victory around the Kent Circuit. He won the Championship by accumulating 288 points and being 21 points ahead of his closest rival Jason O’Halloran. There was a lot of tears and celebrations in the VisionTrack Ducati garage, this is team owners Paul Birds second championship title win on the bounce, having won the title last year with Scott Reading.
Its been a very close season with some great racing action! What will the 2021 season have in store for us with a possible 33 race championship planned?
